Exhibition at Arts on Union

For the first time in herstory...the MMCA Marketplace Artists are appearing in a bricks-and-mortar gallery as a group.

Although, we are a diverse group of women who meet often - on the World Wide Web - and most of us chat daily - via email, forum or cell phone - we have not exhibited together in a single location.

Arts on Union in Middletown, PA will open its doors to host us as a group during the month of February.  If you are in the Middletown area please stop by and visit our exhibition.  

Charter member, Christine Goldbeck is the owner of Arts on Union, a gallery & studio located at 203 N. Union Street. 

Members participating include Christine, Aileen Roberts, Amanda Davie, Elaine Brady Smith, Patsy Reeves, Roxanne Mendoza, Sue Minier, Sue Pieper and Debbie Overton. 

Q & A with MP member Roxanne Mendoza

The Marketplace has created a list of questions and we will randomly pick 6 for each MP member to answer for you to get to know the artist behind the works of art you will find in the Marketplace.

Roxanne Mendoza 

1. How did you first begin to sell/market your work? I first started out by selling note cards to family and friends back in 1999. My first note cards where reproductions of my original watercolor artwork. I had them professionally printed and began looking for retail outlets. Within a few years I was selling my note cards and jewelry out of 3 retail locations back East. (I live in California.)
2. What do you do and how did you start? I create watercolor note cards, jewelry, and most recently mixed media artwork. In 2000, I created my first website to market my note cards. Over the years my website skills have evolved, I still enjoy being in control of my website and the ability to update it with new creations at any time of the day or night. My first piece of jewelry was a popular French stamp bracelet that I sold to shops back East (US). I then branched out into making necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. Every piece of jewelry has Swarovski crystals incorporated into each design!
3. Do you have one blog or website that you visit daily and why? I like to spread the love so I have many blogs that I enjoy reading! Right now, I am in an organizing and creative mode so I am a bit busy. I do have a blog roll on my blog of all my favorite blogs...take a look and see what catches your eye!
4. What is one art supply you feel is a must have for you? It would have to be glitter for paper projects. Because I love to brighten things up! And for jewelry designs I would have to go with Swarovski crystal beads.
5. What inspires your creative process? It can start out with one idea or take off after being inspired from one item! Once I am inspired the process will usually flow and ideas come together easy. It is when ideas don't come together and you feel you are 'forcing' your art that you need to stop. Creating should not be stressful...it should be fun! You should feel happy with what you created and be sad when you part with it...because parting with your art is what its all about...sharing your talent with others to enjoy!

6. If you had the chance to start over in your art career would you do anything different? I don't think I would do anything differently. I think if you enjoy the process then you will have a fun ride!

More shop owners....

We are excited to share with you two more of our shop owners....Carrie and Roxanne, are both busy artists keeping up with their everyday art activities, as well as, building their shops.  I am sure both of these girls would love for you to stop by their sites for a peek of what you might expect to find in their shops soon.

Carrie Todd ~ Southern California artist, Carrie Todd, is a mixed media collage artist, creating vintage inspired pieces.  A lover of deep backgrounds, cabinet cards and antique books, Carrie uses all that and more to create original, vocal pieces, that she hopes will please and inspire.

Roxanne Mendoza ~ Roxanne creates vintage-inspired stationery and jewelry using new and vintage elements. She enjoys adding texture and layers to everyday items by incorporating beads, ribbon, glitter, and pieces of vintage elements into her designs.

 

We are still working out a few of the code problems when viewing with browsers other than IE, but we are getting there thanks to many of you viewing the site and being so thoughtful and letting me know the problems you are having.  Each one has helped in some way to bring the Marketplace closer to a great Grand Opening.
