A Day in the Life of Tara....and Lola!
6:30am - Wake up with the iPhone in hand and check my email, the NPR news app, and Twitter. Hey, ya never know what can happen overnight! Do my very best to shower and get ready for the day before my daughter, Lola, wakes up.
7:15am - Lola gets up and we get breakfast. Current favorite: french toast. There are worse things, right?
7:45-9:00am - Play time! Maybe answer an email or two and tweet the day's first post.
9:30am - It's time for the day's coffee run. Coffee out is a luxury that I afford myself every day. Is that silly? It's not only something that I enjoy right up there with toddler giggles and blog comments, it's a grounding ritual for me. Whether it's at my favorite coffee shop, a diner, or the drive thru at Starbucks, coffee gets me back in touch with "me" for a moment.
until 11am - Lola and I run around about town. We can't stand to be at home doing nothing!
11-12pm - Lunch time for Lola. Peanut butter sandwich? Yogurt? Fruit? I do my best to get a meal in her tummy before nap time.
12pm - Nap time! Lola naps anywhere from 1-3 hours a day and this is prime time for me to bang out some work. I write blog posts, work on clients' websites (http://taragentile.com), network on Twitter (http://twitter.com/scoutiegirlblog) and Facebook (http://facebook.com/tara.gentile), and catch up on emails - something I am not at all good at. This is not an optimal time for work for me - low blood sugar and all! - so I often end up getting distracted.
2:30pm - Lola wakes up, we grab a snack, and head out for a walk to the playground. She gets some fresh air and I listen to some Fresh Air podcasts. I can tell you that I get more inspiration for blogging from NPR than from any other source. Those kind & intelligent people really get me thinking!
3:30pm - My husband comes home from work. A brief scramble begins wherein I make dinner, Lola runs around the house, Michael does, well, Michael things. I never make a dinner that takes very long, just don't have the attention span. We're eating by 4:30pm and done by 5pm. It's the only time of day that's sacred right now, all three of us sitting at the dining room table.
5pm - I wash the dishes and then get to work. Some nights I leave for my "office" which is conveniently located at the local Panera Bread for now. Other times I sit in the dining room or in the living room with the family. I hope for a day soon when working in the evening is limited but, right now, I must press on!
7pm - Lola goes to bed and I keep working!
11:30pm - I wrap it up for the night and get ready to do it all again. I've been trying to put a limit on myself and only work until 9pm or so but I just really like what I do - it's hard to put the computer down!
Thanks Tara for sharing your day with our readers.
