Alyice Edrich of The Dabbling Mum is a transplant to South Dakota, having spent her entire childhood in sunny, southern California. After leaving California ten years ago, she made her way to Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Tennessee before moving to South Dakota to help care for her ailing parents-in-law. After her parents-in-law recovered, they moved back to California, leaving Alyice and her family to forge a new home in South Dakota—alone.
Over the years that followed Alyice was hit with an isolating depression that rocked her world and caused her to experience insomnia to the 9th degree. With lack of motivation, her business began to suffer as did her self-esteem
With the encouragement of her husband, she took a hiatus from the business and picked up her love of arts and crafts.
Slowly that depression began to lift and her days were once again filled with motivation. Though the insomnia remains, Alyice has learned to work around it.
You can visit her at The Dabbling Mum or Coming Home With Alyice Edrich.
A Day In The Life Of Alyice…
9 AM - Alarm clock goes off. Alyice looks over at the clock, eyes still burning and desiring more sleep, she hits the snooze button then thinks, "It's not 10 am. It's too early. Go back to bed."
10 AM - Alyice wakes up feeling rested and wonders, "What shall I do with my day today?"
10:10 AM - Alyice drags her butt downstairs to the basement where she turns on her computer.
10:15 AM - Alyice checks her email—five accounts mind you. Then she spends a few moments on Twitter (http://twitter.com./alyiceedrich)and Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Dabbling-Mum-eMagazine-Art/327996566903) catching up with colleagues and friends. She'll also market her business through article marketing directories, her own article directory (http://zerodollarreprints.blogspot.com) and other social media outlets.
11:45 AM - Alyice gets the mail. If she's lucky there will be a product to review or a check from a client.
11:50 AM - Alyice decides she better eat breakfast. She'll make 3 minute grits, an egg with toast, or pancakes with chocolate chips. Throughout the day she'll stop by the kitchen for a glass of water and/or a piece of fruit.
12:00 - Time to clean the house—a chore Alyice would gladly designate to a maid, if she could only afford one.
1:00 PM - Alyice works on an article for a client, takes and edits photos for blog posts, or plays with her art.
2:30 PM - Husband arrives home from work. "Yay! Time for a shower." Yes, after 20 years of marriage the couple still showers together.
3:30 PM - Teenage daughter arrives home from school and asks, "What's there to eat?" She then fills her mom, Alyice, in on her day—a precious few moments that never gets old. (If it's summertime, the daughter usually leaves her room about this time and hangs with mom for a few before heading out with her friends.)
4:00 PM - Alyice and her husband take a leisurely stroll around town as they talk about their day, their dreams, and life. "This is one of the best parts of the day," says Alyice.
5:00 PM - Alyice makes dinner while simultaneously preparing the next day's lunches for the kids and husband. Yep, she's skipped lunch again but makes sure her family members are eating healthy. (If it's summertime, the son is home from college so the family works out together—trying to build muscles and get physically fit.)
6:00 PM - The family eats together.
7:00 PM - Alyice watches television with her husband as he winds down and prepares for bed.
7:30 PM - Husband hits the sack so unless the kids want to hang with Alyice, she'll head back downstairs to work in her office where she'll complete any lingering projects or play with her art. You might even find her checking in on Twitter or Facebook.
9:00 PM - Alyice works on social media virtual assistant stuff for C&T Publishing (http://www.ctpubblog.com). Alyice loves working with this company. They're so innovative with their networking and their customer outreach programs that she's always learning something new. Plus, they have some great stuff, like TAP: Transfer Artist Paper.
10:30 PM - Alyice works on stuff for her own publication, The Dabbling Mum (http://thedabblingmum.com/emagindex.htm). She'll respond to emails, contact interviewees via email, edit articles, load articles to the online magazine, pay writers, write blog posts, handle recordkeeping, and do whatever else is necessary to keep the business afloat.
12:00 AM - Alyice realizes that she should be in bed, but alas she's still wide awake. She's too tired to think straight so she calls it a night and focuses her attention on a few paper ornaments, embroidery, or crochet while she watches an old sitcom on Netflix's streaming video or watches a video she needs to review. If her creative muse has anything to say about it, however, she may find herself playing with her art again.
3:00 AM - Alyice finally feels tired. Alyice heads to bed about the same time her husband wakes up to get ready for work. If he asks, she'll make him breakfast. If not, she'll give him a kiss and a hug, wish him a safe trip to work, and head to bed.
3:30 AM - Alyice finally falls asleep. She dreams of saying good-bye to the insomnia forever and prays for more energy the next day.
The weekends are spent running errands and hanging out with the family. No work is allowed.
Thank you Alyice for sharing your day with our readers.
