“Life is Like a Box of Magic”

Congratulations Marketplace Shop Owner, Sue Minier for being selected as one of the winner's in the Cloth Paper Scissors 2010 Calendar contest.  Her winning piece, "Life is Like a Box of Magic", a 12" x 12" mixed-media based on the theme "Life is Like a Box..." will be revealed in the September/October 2009 issue of CPS.

Digital Photography Course

MMCA Marketplace member, Christine Goldbeck will be bringing Digital Photography back to the Art Association of Harrisburg in PA this summer.  She has been accepted as an instructor and she will begin teaching evening classes during the summer semester, July 16 through August 6.

Goldbeck said "If you want to learn about your camera, how to make better photos and how to store digital images, among other things, register and come on down. Although I gear this particular course toward artists, you do not have to be an artist to benefit. Besides, you might become an artist through photography."

Invitation to join the MMCA Marketplace

You've been hearing all the buzz lately about the up & coming MMCA Marketplace, and now we'd like to extend an invitation for you to join in on this exciting online marketing venue.  If you are an artist who is committed to producing quality, original art, we welcome you to apply for membership now while we're doing an open enrollment.   

Applicants are judged on quality, style and value to ensure that our Marketplace can effectively represent you, and so that we can offer "something for everyone" who comes to the Marketplace to shop.  We strive to represent those artists who are devoted to their work and are constantly refining their skills.   Artists accepted into the Marketplace will be coming together with the current members , adding to the already widely varied background of styles, mediums, and pricing, making it possible to offer our clients quality art in the medium of their choice.   

 

While our standards are high, our membership costs are not.  Benefits of belonging to the MMCA Marketplace include:

Exhibition at Arts on Union

For the first time in herstory...the MMCA Marketplace Artists are appearing in a bricks-and-mortar gallery as a group.

Although, we are a diverse group of women who meet often - on the World Wide Web - and most of us chat daily - via email, forum or cell phone - we have not exhibited together in a single location.

Arts on Union in Middletown, PA will open its doors to host us as a group during the month of February.  If you are in the Middletown area please stop by and visit our exhibition.  

Charter member, Christine Goldbeck is the owner of Arts on Union, a gallery & studio located at 203 N. Union Street. 

Members participating include Christine, Aileen Roberts, Amanda Davie, Elaine Brady Smith, Patsy Reeves, Roxanne Mendoza, Sue Minier, Sue Pieper and Debbie Overton.

FreeArt Project

Art on the Web

 

Marketplace member Sue Minier will be interviewed Thursday October 16th for an online project, FreeArt in the works for Orange County New York artists.  The interview is part of a short video documentary and future plans may include an online text version of the interviews according to Lindsey Graham, Director of the FreeArt Project.

 

FreeArt is a free service for Artists living, working or who were born in Orange County New York.

 

Mission Statement:

We live in a society where multi-media technologies have changed the way art is viewed. The relationship between the viewer and artwork has moved from the three dimensional gallery to the World Wide Web. Hudson Valley art is more prolific and diverse as ever.  Where to go?  What to see? Busy lifestyles do not always allow the opportunity to research the local art world.

 

A solution is at hand. The creators of FreeArt are presently constructing a site where a virtual map of Orange County, via Google Maps, will be a platform for local artists to profile and document their life's work, making available to the public the art work of the Hudson Valley. The creators of FreeArt will also be creating short documentary videos on individual artists who work or reside in Orange County. These videos will become the main content of the FreeArt webpage. This is an opportunity for local artists to participate in a unique communal exhibition and to also take part in the historical preservation of the arts of our beloved county.

 

Objective:
To create an online archive by documenting Orange County Artists.

 

This project is made possible, in part, with funds from Orange County Tourism/Orange Arts and the County of Orange.
